However, should crisis strike, our specialized staff, advanced medical/surgical capabilities, and on-site laboratory and pharmacy are here to provide your pet a wide range of lifesaving procedures. Our staff has seen tens of thousands of emergency cases. In fact, we see more than 10,000 each year!

Dr. Heather BeckerHeather is originally from Nebraska and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. After going into general practice for two years, she completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at the Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Her desire to practice high quality emergency and critical care medicine, as well as a love for Colorado, brought her to the Animal Emergency Care Centers in 2003 and she has been an associate here ever since. She has seen the practice through much development and change and has enjoyed being a part of its growth and progress. Outside of work, she is a member of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps, the El Paso County Community Animal Response Team, and is assisting in the development of El Paso County’s own Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps. She is a training coordinator for the hospital’s newest training service: Animal Emergency Medical Training, which is dedicated to providing animal first aid, basic CPR and emergency medical training to first responders, fire fighters and canine handlers in the Pikes Peak Region. She is also a volunteer member of the Fountain Fire Department’s Animal Rescue Team and is soon to be a certified human EMT-Basic. If she has spare time beyond all of this, she enjoys hiking with her 2 “children” Grace, a lab-mix, and Calvin, a heel-ador (heeler lab-mix), enjoying good Irish music at the local Irish pub, camping, snowboarding, international travel, and homebrewing. |
Dr. Ashley Sides- IafelieceDr. Ashley Sides is originally from North Carolina, and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997. She then moved to Florida and graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida in 2002. Dr. Sides then completed a small animal rotating internship at Veterinary Specialists of Northern Colorado in Ft. Collins before moving to Colorado Springs. In 2003, she joined the staff at Animal Emergency Care Centers and has since been a part of the team here in Colorado Springs. Her special interest in the field of veterinary medicine is emergency surgery. Dr. Sides is married and has seven furry children, which include two dogs (a Labrador Retriever and a Chihuahua), and five cats. In her free time she enjoys traveling, hiking, rock climbing and camping. |
Dr. Patrick Vall
When he is not relaxing at Animal Emergency Care Centers, Patrick is hard at work along side his wife of 20 years taking care of their four children, two cats and one dog. They're family has thoroughly enjoyed being back in his wife's native Colorado since 2004. Patrick enjoys snowboarding, hiking and climbing in the mountains of Colorado and has summited over 40 of Colorado's 14,000 ft. peaks. He really enjoys a Colorado microbrew after climbing a 14er. Patrick is passionate about following his Cleveland sports teams and anything to do with his much loved Ohio State Buckeyes. One of his mottos for life is, "Climb On!" |
Dr. Michelle Peacock, DVM
Born Biloxi, Mississippi Undergraduate Education: Veterinary Education: Work Experience: Dr. Peacock is an avid skier and was a member of California’s Mammoth Mountain Ski Area’s Professional Ski Patrol for 8 years. She enjoys running, hiking, backpacking/climbing, and has competed in Triathalons. Dr. Peacock has three wonderful dogs Auni and Henry cattle dogs and Cody a young unruly 2 year old labrador retriever. She is married to Bruce Delaney and they live outside Colorado Springs, CO. |

Dr. Gaynor completed his undergraduate degree from The Colorado College in 1983 and received his veterinary degree (DVM) from The Ohio State University in 1988. He was in private small animal practice in northeastern Ohio for 1 year prior to returning to The Ohio State University for a 3 year residency in Anesthesiology. He is currently board certified in veterinary anesthesiology, certified in veterinary acupuncture and is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Gaynor joined the faculty at Colorado State University in 1992 and was Section chief and associate professor of anesthesiology and pain management when he left the University in 2004. He is a past member of the Leadership Council for the Companion Animal Pain Management Consortium and a current Board member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Gaynor enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and 3 dogs. When not working, he can frequently be found bicycling on the road or trails, hiking or skiing.
Dr. Patrick Vall was born and raised the youngest of five children in Cleveland, Ohio and has been a proud Buckeye all his life. He graduated in 1988 from Franciscan University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and then went on to The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine to earn his veterinary degree in 1992. Patrick has enjoyed owning small animal veterinary clinics in both Maryland and Colorado prior to joining the Animal Emergency Care Center staff as an associate emergency veterinarian in 2009. He has professional interests in emergency medicine, dentistry, anesthesia and pain management.

Dr. Erk is from Honesdale, Pennsylvania. He attended the Pennsylvania State University for three years before being accepted to veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania, and earned his degree there in 2005. He has been a member of the Animal Emergency Care team since then, although he left for 1 year to gain experience at a general practice in Colorado Springs.
He spends his spare time growing a beautiful family with his wife Ashlea (also a veterinarian). They have two sons, Brodie and Wesley, and a 3-legged devil dog named Gus.
